Calgarth Lodge
Close to the park is Brockhole, the visitor centre which has a lovely lake walk and gardens, cafe, adventure playground and a cruise launch from where you can explore the whole of the lake. Best of all the facilites are free except the cruise and refreshments!
Troutbeck Bridge is just around the corner offering you local facilities of the Spar shop, post office and the Sun Inn, which is a lovely, recently refurbished pub offering meals throughout the day.
Towards Ambleside is the Watersports Centre providing you with the opportunity to try out all those watersports that are available on Lake Windermere.
You can walk from the lodge into Windermere, Ambleside or to Ings further afield (see above) – and is only a short distance to Brockhole which is a great place for the kids to left off some steam! There are great views whichever you venture and to go further afield there are local buses, bike hire or jump in the car – nothing’s very far away!
